People Management
Team Handling
Counseling
Performance Improvement Programs (PIPs)
Probation Periods
What are these terms?
Why are they important?
[Think about it, and hold those thoughts.]
Now, imagine an ideal world where everyone wakes up with a clear purpose—knowing what to do, why it matters, and how to get it done.
Would they need any persuasion or motivation after that?
If employers only needed to communicate tasks, ‘the what’ to do, would everything run smoothly?
Possibly.
But that is a little unrealistic.
Even robotic?
That’s what many managers hope for—a smooth, trouble-free workflow.
But real-life work environments are complex.
We have emotions, diverging opinions, and conflicting perspectives.
When they come in, work takes a hit!
Disagreements, confusion, and friction creep in.
However, when you know yourself—your strengths, motivations, and what matters most—you don’t really need someone else to guide your every step.
You might have a personal drive:
To build a career
To work on something meaningful
To earn a stable income
To gain social respect
On the other hand, not everyone is clear on their motivation.
Some need help discovering it.
And that’s okay—clarity takes time.
We’ve all been there at some point.
But here’s the challenge:
In the meantime, you still have work to do, deadlines to meet, and responsibilities to uphold.
So, what happens when the internal motivation is lacking?
Policies—attendance, code of conduct, and performance rules are imposed.
Are they helpful?
Yes!
Do they resolve all clarity and performance related issues?
No.
Rules can only go so far.
They create structure but not lasting motivation.
And then companies invite internal or external management consultants - to step in when employees lack the clarity to manage themselves.
Does the problem really end there?
Nah!
The Real Solution: Self-awareness.
When you understand yourself—your values, priorities, and strengths—you don’t need external motivation or management to push you.
You’re already in tune with what drives you, and you’re able to adapt and grow, without waiting for others to step in.
Self-aware employees:
Take ownership of their work
Seek solutions, not excuses
Navigate conflicts with empathy and reason
By fostering self-awareness, individuals become more independent, resilient, and proactive. They align their work with their personal goals, creating a sense of purpose that no policy can enforce.
They do this while taking care of themselves, and don’t push themselves too hard.
Just the right amount!
This makes them super-effective in the long run, and they’re able to prove themselves as an asset to everyone around them.
And now if someone in the management is foolish enough to push them beyond a limit, for no good reason, they end up losing the asset to their competitors.
Therefore, do a careful introspection of who you are as a person, what is your working style, and how you can be more effective, without burning yourself out.
This will make you invincible!
You won’t really need someone else to come to your rescue.
That’s the best way to thrive in this chaotic environment.
Be invincible, my friend!
Know yourself!
Be invincible!
See you next week!
